Numeracy is taught through school via a daily structured Numeracy lesson, which is based upon the National Curriculum objectives in Key Stage 1 and the EYFS framework in Foundation Stage. Throughout these sessions, children are able to develop and extend their mathematical skills in a range of different areas involving numbers, calculations, shape, space and measures and statistics.
Pupils are given opportunities to learn through stimulating practical activities and are encouraged to apply their knowledge through investigational work and problem solving activities. Opportunities are also given for children to extend their learning through purposeful homework.
Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child's development in mathematics through:
- Parents meetings
- Open evenings
- Annual reports to parents
- Maths homework
- Personal pupil targets for Numeracy
