Hot weather advice
Sun 18 Jun 2023☀️ Hot Weather: Be Aware! ☀️
Hot weather advice – Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council
However tempting it may be during periods of hot weather, members of the public are reminded not to go swimming in open water, in reservoirs, rivers or canals, even if the water looks calm.
If you do find yourself entering the water unexpectedly:
- Take a minute. The initial effects of cold water pass in less than a minute so don’t try to swim straight away.
- Relax and float on your back to catch your breath. Try to get hold of something that will help you float.
- Keep calm then call for help or swim for safety if you’re able.
Stay safe, stay out of the water.
We need to help promote a strong message about KEEPING SAFE IN THE SUN and OPEN WATER WARNING. Cold water is not just a risk for winter.
Know about Cold water shock - The effect on the body of entering water 15°C and below is often underestimated. This shock can be the precursor to drowning. More information here >> Cold Water Shock - Water Safety Tips - Know The Risks (rnli.org)

Rotherham IAPT
Mon 13 Mar 2023Rotherham IAPT has created a new webpage aimed at parents, with lots of advice and information on there about mental wellbeing, signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and how to get in touch with us for support. Please see the information below:
Being a parent can be the most rewarding job in the world, but it can also bring challenges – which may affect your mental health.
As part of Parent Mental Health Day (27th January), a brand-new web page has been created as a one stop shop for parents needing information, advice or tips – whether you’re a new mum or dad, pregnant or have a little more experience in the role.
You can take a look at the new webpage at
iapt.rdash.nhs.uk/about-rotherham-iapt/specialist-groups/parents/
Rotherham’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies service has joined forces with children’s services to raise awareness of mental health issues parents may face, promote better mental wellbeing for mums and dads and to normalise getting the support you need, when you need it.
If you are persistently struggling with low mood, constant worry, feeling worthless or feeling afraid that something bad might happen, you can self-refer to IAPT for free talking therapies online at iapt.rdash.nhs.uk or by calling 03000 215 108.
IAPT is run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust, known as RDaSH for short, and offers a free, confidential NHS service.

Sibling Support Group
Fri 10 Mar 2023We are very lucky to have secured free provision to run a Sibling Support Group in our school over a period of 5 weeks through March and April. These sessions will be run by a trained professional, Marie Butcher, who works with Rotherham Parents Carers Forum, and she will be supported by Mrs Richmond, our Learning Mentor. The sessions will run over a number of weeks and aim to support children who have a sibling with additional needs. There is much research that shows that siblings of children with additional needs can sometimes worry about their sibling and have a range of emotions about their situation. These sessions will give children a chance to talk and express their feelings about this in a safe and secure way. Please see some information below from Marie, to give you an idea about how the sessions will run.
Sibling Support Group
From experience, siblings do an amazing job in supporting their brother or sister's additional need, there is often some anxiety, questions, worries etc. around this. The group is positive (based on fun activities) and it will allow the young person to discuss their fears but also celebrate their skills and current coping strategies and support them in creating further ones. Please see below the key things that children will experience if they are part of the support group.
- Meet others in a similar situation.
- Share experiences and feelings.
- Learn better ways of managing difficult feelings better!
- Understand the disability or additional need.
- Feel better about themselves.
- Have time out.
- Celebrate the positives.
- Make new friends!
- Last but most importantly have FUN.
Please be reassured that this group would be a safe, non-judgemental space for the children to share their feelings and it is being led by a parent with a child with complex SEND who understands the challenges families in this position face.Whilst we are aware of some families within school who have children with additional needs who we feel this would benefit, we wanted to send this information out to all families in case we are not aware and you think this would be a good opportunity for your child to access support.
If you would like your child to access a place, please get in touch with school via the email address below and we will add their name to the list. Places are limited and will be given on a first come, first served basis. Marie does require us to share your child's name, DOB and postcode to be involved and there will be a form for you to complete to give permission for photographs etc.

School closed - today
Fri 10 Mar 2023Due to the continued adverse weather and a significant amount of snowfall during the evening and night, we have made the decision to close school today. This is not an easy decision to make as we do not want children to miss any learning, however we do not feel that it is safe for staff or families to travel on the roads around school.
We are hopeful that school will be open as usual on Monday.
Thank you for your continued support.
