Author Visit - Steve Smallman - Friday 25th March
Sat 19 Mar 2022We hope you have had fun this week taking part in our Reading Stars game! Don't forget to upload your pictures onto your Google Classroom page when you have completed the challenge.
This week we are very excited to be welcoming Steve Smallman, a fantastic author, into school to spend the day with us. He will be in school all day on Friday 25th March. Each class will have a session with Steve where they will be involved in storytelling and Steve will also complete some illustrations to accompany our stories. During his previous visit in 2016, we were able to keep his drawings and they are now on show in the Sunshine Room! You can find out more about Steve's work here: http://www.stevesmallman.co.uk/.
Steve has offered to sign some of his books and these will be available to purchase. If you would like to buy one or more of Steve's books, that you send in £6 per book before the end of the day on Thursday so that we can let Steve know how many books to bring. Please send in your money in an envelope with your child's name and class on and the name of the books they would like to buy. We can then make sure that no-one misses out!
Don't forget to keep filling in your Book at Bedtime reading chart and sharing books at bedtime!

Reading Stars Game!
Sun 13 Mar 2022We hope you are all enjoying taking part in our Book at Bedtime this month.
We are having a great time in school continuing with our celebration of all things reading. Last week all the children enjoyed swapping teachers at story time and sharing their favourite books!
This week we are moving into Week 3 and we want everyone to take part in our Reading Stars game! Have a look at the World Book Day Reading Stars game poster. Mrs Richmond and Mrs Green have both done number 5 (read in an unusual place). Share a picture of yourself reading in the garden or at breakfast …….have a look at the poster for more ideas!

Comic Relief - Friday 18th March
Fri 11 Mar 2022We are looking forward to celebrating Comic Relief in school next Friday - 18th March. Thank you for purchasing your red noses from us - we do have just over one box left. They will continue to be on sale until we sell out. You can either bring cash with you in a morning or send this in an envelope and we will make sure your child gets a red nose.
On the day, children are invited to dress up and wear their red nose. The theme this year is 'Heroes' so this can be a superhero or a real life hero - we can't wait to see your ideas! As always, we do not want you to spend lots of money on expensive outfits - I am sure you will already have things at home that children can wear.
As part of our fundraising effort, we are asking children to come to school with coins this year - we are going to be holding a whole school 'Comic Coin Collection' where all the coins that are brought in will be made into a wonderful trail on the school playground. We are happy to take in any coins that you may have - every little counts. Find out those coppers and bring them in!
We also want to have some fun with a little joke challenge! We would love it if you could record your child telling a joke and post it on their class page to share with their class. Each class will be looking at these throughout the school day - and hopefully we will be laughing along!! Mrs P might share some with Lenny Henry on Twitter and we will see if we can get a reply!!
Thank you so much for your continued support.

Support for parents - discussing the situation in Ukraine
Tue 01 Mar 2022In assembly on Monday, we discussed in an age appropriate, child friendly way, the recent events in Ukraine and how people around the world are helping each other during this difficult time. Following advice from the Educational Psychology Service, we wanted to give children some appropriate information and reassure them that they do not need to worry about the things that are happening as important people from different countries are working together and hopefully the conflict will end soon. As advised by the EPS, we did not want to ignore this conversation as this can lead to children having wider misconceptions and increase their worries. We know that many of you are concerned about the current situation in Ukraine and have been in touch regarding how to speak to your child about the unfolding events. Please find below a link to a useful resource from the British Psychology Society, which explains the best way to support your child if they are anxious about the current situation.https://www.bps.org.uk/news-and-policy/supporting-children-manage-anxiety-over-war-conflict-and-crisesPlease don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
