Andy & The Odd Socks video
Tue 29 Sep 2020Please see the email below which I have received from Andy & The Odd Socks. We were very lucky to have Andy & The Odd Socks visit us in school last year and they have now asked if we can be in their new music video! A consent form will be sent home to fill in and return to school by Thursday 1st October at the latest so that we can complete the filming and send these off to Andy.
Dear Mrs Peart,
I am writing to you on behalf of Andy Day, CBeebies/CBBC and his band Andy and the Odd Socks.
Since 2017, The Anti-Bullying Alliance and Andy and the Odd Socks, have held National Odd Socks Day, a day for children to come together to celebrate individuality, to be kind and accepting of each other’s differences and most importantly to be themselves. Odd Socks Day marks the start of Anti-Bullying week, run by the Anti-Bullying Alliance of which Andy and the band are patrons. Anti-Bullying Week will launch with #OddSocksDay on November 16 in schools across the country.
As you know, every year, the band write and record an official anthem for Anti-Bullying Week inspired by the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s chosen theme, the 2020 theme is United Against Bullying. This year, Andy and the Odd Socks are releasing a cover of the Sham 69 classic, The Kids Are United – a true youth anthem with a rousing message of togetherness. This official Odd Socks Day 2020 track features lyrics inspired by conversations the band had with school children earlier this summer and all profits are being donated to the Anti-Bullying Alliance.
The song is always accompanied by a music video and always features children, this year we feel this is more important than ever. I have attached a link to a previous year’s video for information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of5CxXz662Y
I’m delighted to invite your school to feature in our music video, as one of only 30 schools in the UK to be invited to take part. The finished film will be shared by media and on the Andy and the Odd Socks and Anti-Bullying Alliance’s social media channels and always plays a big part in Odd Socks Day. This will be very simple to film on a phone and will be things like, the children jumping up and down in time to the song or freestyle dancing to the tune and so on. We appreciate that children will be in bubbles and so small groups in the shots will be fine.
This is a wonderful opportunity and I hope you will allow your child to take part. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Grange Road road closure
Mon 21 Sep 2020We have received notification from RMBC that Grange Road will be closed from 23rd September and this work should take approximately 10 days. After contacting the Council, we have been advised that the work will begin from the East Bawtry Road entrance to Grange Road and will be completed in stages. This work will be carried out from 8am until 4pm.
When the roadworks move closer to the school entrance, the work will only be completed during school hours - 9.30 - 2.30 - and will be reopened for school traffic.
As you can imagine, the roadworks will cause some disruption to the area around school during this time, so please ensure you give yourself plenty of time to get to school and wherever possible, try to park and stride or walk to school.

Important Online Safety Message - Tik Tok
Sun 13 Sep 2020Please see below an important message from Tim Pinto - Online Safety Advisor:
As a parent/carer, you may have heard that a disturbing video has been posted on the social media apps Tik Tok and Snapchat. This is not the first time that harmful videos have been posted onto social media sites. Whilst the platforms have tried to remove the video, it has been shared by many other users and in some cases, users have encouraged others to view it. Some users have also disguised the video with pictures of ‘cute animals’.
Tik Tok is a very popular app with children as it includes viral videos of dancers, celebrities etc. The videos are limited to less than 60 seconds and users scroll through different videos. In the UK it had a minimum age of 13.
Advice for parents is to monitor their children's use of social media apps such as Instagram, Snapchat and Tik Tok. All these have a minimum age restriction of 13 years old. Remember that all social media apps have risks and if you allow your child to use these apps, they must have adult supervision.
Look at privacy controls for devices and ensure that you know what they are downloading. All devices have built in restrictions to give you more control. A useful site for this is https://www.internetmatters.org/
It is also important that you regularly talk to your child about what they are doing online.
Tik Tok also has a safety centre, available here: https://www.tiktok.com/safety/resources/for-parents?lang=en

Ordering school dinners
Mon 07 Sep 2020If your child is having a lunch from school each day, please try and order this from home. Normally parents would choose the lunch option with their child within the classroom, but unfortunately we cannot do this at the moment. Please login to your School Grid account and choose your child's lunch with them at home as often as you can.
Thank you.

Packed lunches from home
Mon 07 Sep 2020We have had several lunchboxes being brought into school without the child's name clearly labelled on it. Please make sure if your child is bringing their own packed lunch that their name is written on it so that when checking lunches staff can do this quickly and without disruption to the school day.
Thank you.
