Nursery (F1) information
We provide outstanding nursery provision for three and four year old's, alongside our Reception provision. Children access 15 or 30 hours of provision with us, over 5 days, term time only. 15 hour sessions are available only as morning sessions, and 30 hours provision is the whole school day.
Children attending a morning only session attend each morning from 8.45am to 11.45am. Those attending for 30 hours begin at 9.00am and finish at 3.00pm. It is possible to purchase additional time allowing your child to begin at 8.45am and finish at 3.15pm each day, in line with the rest of the school children.
To be eligible for a 30 hour place, we require an 11 digit code. For more information on applying for a 30 hour code, please go to: www.childcarechoices.gov.uk to check if you are eligible.
The sessions are run by a qualified teacher supported by two early years practitioners. When children arrive at school they are welcomed by these highly trained staff who ease the separation from parents by engaging the children in a range of self directed activities. We encourage all the children in school to be independent and we foster this through a play based curriculum.
Children can access a range of learning opportunities independently. These are planned using the schools progression skills curriculum ensuring that children are developing the expertise they need to access the National Curriculum when they enter Year 1. Planning is also linked to the governments development matters guidance.
Children can access a range of play activities in their foundation one (Nursery) classroom. They are also encouraged to explore the large out doors provision, which is solely used by our Nursery children. As the year progresses and they become more confident, they will begin to use our larger Reception (F2) outdoor area, which supports transition. As this space is shared children who attend our nursery settle quicker in Reception as they are already familiar with the setting and the staff.
Each day the children engage in a range of whole class learning sessions where the development of language is promoted through the use of stories, rhymes and new experiences. These sessions are multi-sensory, fun and engaging so they don't even realising they are learning! Throughout the week the children also work with the teacher in small groups to develop their early phonics skills. The children who attend our nursery and then move into full time school at Sitwell find early writing and reading easier as the same phonics scheme is followed throughout the school.
