Poppy Class - Y1
Welcome to Poppy Class
Welcome to our class page!
Here you will find all the information you need about timings of the day, home reading, home learning and PE. We will also post information about any upcoming visits or special events and share our class learning with you on Google Classroom, so please make sure you are able to log on to Poppy's Google Classroom page. This is where you can also share your news - we check it every week in class and we really enjoying finding out what everybody enjoys doing in theirr spare time away from school!
Timings of the Day
Our school day begins at 8:45am - our school doors are open from 8.40am. Please see your child safely into school. Our school day ends at 3:15pm and children should be collected from the clock circle near the middle of the playground. Please do not take your child until you have spoken to the teacher/adult - this is to ensure the safety of all our children. We have a playtime every morning at 10.30 - 10.45am and our lunch time is 12.15 - 1.15pm.
Physical Education
Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday . Please ensure your child brings the correct PE kit and that all of their clothing is clearly labelled, including pumps/trainers! If the weather turns chilly, please send tracksuit bottoms for our outdoor PE sessions - we will provide a school hoodie which will be kept in school. Earrings/watches must be removed before PE lessons and long hair should be tied back. Other jewellery is not permitted to be worn in school at any time. PE sessions are lots of fun and a very important part of the curriculum, so all children are expected to take part each week.
Reading Diaries and Reading Books
Readings diaries will be collected on Mondays and we will give a stamp to the children who have read at least 3 times at home that week.
Specific Read Write Inc guided reading books will be given out to children according to their reading level and are usually changed every 3 days. Please note that this day will vary according to when their RWI group reads in school so it is very important that your child brings their book bag to school every day. Taking the time to read these books at home helps to consolidate your child's phonics learning.
Children will also bring home a book of their choice from the corridor. These Reading for Pleasure books will have a green sticker on the front and can be changed as frequently as needed. Just ask your child to let us know when they are ready for a new book, or they are welcome to change it themselves as they come into school in a morning.
We will also give your child a Dream Read book to read. These are popular book titles and have a purple sticker on the front. We will change these in class every Monday, so please make sure your child has their Dream Read in their book bag on this day.
Reading for Pleasure books and Dream Read books are not intended for children to read independently, but for adults to read to them. In doing so, this helps to encourage a love of reading, creating great opportunities for discussion and increasing vocabulary!
Home Learning
Home learning tasks will be posted on google classrooms every Friday. This will include a spelling activity and also alternate between a literacy task one week, followed by numeracy the next.
Please let us know how your child gets on and click when the task is completed. A purple homework book has been given to your child for them to complete any homework tasks in. This does not have to be returned to school - it is just for children to use at home as necessary. Feel free to share photos of your child's learning too on Google Classroom.
